Welcome To My Journey
As I am hiking in the backcountry of my home town of Prince George I am thinking of a question that someone asked me not to long ago. Before this journey started I thought that I wanted to homestead. The thought was very appealing to me. Not having to work, live off the grid, being debt free, the peace and joy of being in the middle of nowhere with nobody else around. I dwelled on the idea every day. Was I any closer to my dream? What did I have to do next to accomplish it. This went on for quite a few years until recently a good friend of mine asked me a question that changed my life’s direction completely. Is it the hard work and dedication that you want out of this or is it the peacefulness and seclusion that you are looking forward to the most? WOW that was a question!!! It really made me sit back and think what was I really looking for in life. I was totally prepared for the hard work and dedication that homesteading entailed but under the surface I knew that I still wanted to travel and explore. While it is not impossible in this lifestyle to do so, it is a lot harder. So as I walked and enjoyed the solitude of the great outdoors I began to think. Hiking has always been something that I have greatly enjoyed from a very young age and even into my adulthood has become a passion of mine. I wish I could do more of this all the time. It came to me then that the feeling that I was searching for in homesteading was the same feeling that I got from hiking and the plus was that I was able to travel as well. This stayed with me as I thought on this for the next few months and the more I thought about it the more I wanted it.
In the meantime I was talking to a few people that I knew and was telling them about the hikes I was going on. They were asking me about the trails and what they were like. How long were they? Were they hard? Were they worth the hike? This got me thinking that there are so many trails out there that nobody really knows about. Maybe they do know but because they are not experienced hikers they are not sure what they will be facing along the trail they don’t go.
I started to research the trails that I wanted to go on and discovered that there was really no information out there on what to expect on the trail. Oh there was information on how to get to the trail and very beautiful pictures of views from the trail but not what was to expect while hiking the trail. I wanted to change that. The more I talked to people the more that I wanted to share the beauties that I was experiencing while out on the trail. So it came to me… why don’t I start a blog of all these different trails and show people what sort of thing they can discover not to far from their backyard.
So I am starting this blog because I want to be able to share with both the inexperienced and the experienced hikers these trails. What they look like, what to expect, how long they are, how short they are, where do the side trails go etc. I want to bring awareness to the history and beauty that we have around us.
So as I journey around and discover all of these trails that are right here in our backyards I am going to share my discoveries with you. Show you the beauties that I discover on the way through words and pictures. I am going to start this journey in the beautiful British Columbia, going through one town at a time, making new discoveries and hopefully bringing new discoveries to you as well. Eventually the dream is to venture onto the world. So welcome to my journey of hiking every trail in Beautiful British Columbia and beyond.
